What happens to your base on Rust force wipe?

On force wipe your base, loot and everything on the map is deleted on every server. What is kept, what is lost, and how to make the most of the last days before it.

Short answer: on force wipe, your base is gone. Every server resets its map when Facepunch releases the monthly update on the first Thursday of the month, and nothing on the old map comes with it.

What you lose

  • Your base, every wall and door of it.
  • Everything stored in it, and everything in your inventory on that server.
  • Usually your blueprints. Official servers reset them on force wipe; most community servers do too. See blueprint wipe vs map wipe.

What you keep

  • Your Steam account and the game.
  • Skins and items you own on Steam. They are tied to your account, not a server.
  • Your hours, achievements and friends.

A wipe resets a server, never your account.

Make the most of the last days

Because everything is going anyway, the days before force wipe are often the most fun on a server:

  • Use your stockpiles. There is no point saving rockets and explosives for a map that is about to vanish.
  • Raid and roam more freely. Losing gear matters less with the end in sight.
  • Try things you would not risk mid-wipe.

Get ready for the next one

Force wipe is also the best fresh start of the month: a new map and, usually, everybody back to basic blueprints. Being in the server in the first minutes makes the biggest difference, so plan for the time, which usually lands around 7pm UK time.
